Roger Wendlick, Expert on Lewis & Clark Expedition
Roger Wendlick is a fascinating historian who added much to our understanding of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Roger Wendlick was raised in Portland, Oregon, and has spent much of his life along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. In 1980, he began collecting Lewis and Clark memorabilia and soon became passionate on the subject of these men and their expedition of the early 1800's. Over the years, he collected over 1000 books, magazines, newspapers, maps, and pamphlets. Eventually he donated this extensive collection to the Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
Roger's knowledge and passion for the Lewis & Clark expedition was a wonderful addition to our Columbia and Snake River cruise.
Assuming the dress and character of George Drouillard, the hunter and interpreter of the expedition, he gave three presentations in the observation lounge during the cruise. As we cruised, he also pointed out river landmarks such as Ship Rock on the Snake River in Washington described by the expedition members in their logbooks.
