- PCSO serves the local region of Pinal County, Arizona. The Arizona Department of Corrections serves all of Arizona.
- PCSO and Arizona Department of Corrections provide adult detention services. PCSO operates and manages the Pinal County Jail, which is the third-largest county jail in Arizona. The Pinal County Jail has a bed capacity of 1,504. The Arizona Department of Corrections has a much larger inmate population, because it serves the entire state. In 2009, Arizona Department of Corrections had an average daily population of nearly 40,000 inmates.
- Both organizations differ in respect to law enforcement duties. The PCSO, along with operating and managing the Pinal County Jail, is responsible for enforcement of local, state, and federal laws. The Arizona Department of Corrections only deals with inmate detention issues.
