Punta Gorda is a town located in the Toledo District of Belize. During the summer months the town becomes filled with local people selling home-grown produce to tourists. The Punta Gorda nightlife is low-key, offering only a few quiet bars and the Garifuna drummers who perform for visitors to the area. Accommodations in the town are varied, from hotels in the center of Punta Gorda to luxurious rural retreats in the rainforest. - Machaca Hill Rainforest Canopy Lodge is nestled amongst the hills in southern Belize. The suites at the lodge have screened verandas and views of the rainforest, where wildlife is often spotted. Suites are designed using natural materials, and spa-style bathrooms offer a large shower area. The restaurant in the hotel has indoor and outdoor seating and uses seasonal ingredients. Many of the ingredients used are organically grown within the resort. Guides from Machaca arrange treks within the rainforest and local caves. Kayak and canoe trips are organized along the Rio Grande, and fishing trips are also available. The spa in the resort offers a wide range of treatments as well as yoga classes.
- The Cotton Tree Lodge is located near the banks of the Moho River. Thatched cabanas have private balconies and views of either the Moho River or gardens. The cabanas are decorated using Mayan materials and have private bathrooms and purified drinking water. The restaurant in the hotel serves a blend of American, Belize and European cuisine using ingredients grown on site. Tours are arranged by the lodge, and these include visits to the Mayan Ruins and hiking and climbing activities.
- The Coral House Inn is situated at the end of Main Street in Punta Gorda. The 1930s house has air-conditioned rooms with verandas, which overlook the Caribbean Sea. The rooms have complimentary Internet access. A continental breakfast is included in the price of a room, while a full breakfast is available at extra cost. The Inn has a swimming pool, and bicycles are available for guest use free of charge. A poolside bar is available, and there is also a gift shop that sells local arts and crafts and a book exchange shop nearby.
