- 1). Connect the external hard drive or external DVD-RAM drive to one of your computer's available USB ports. Otherwise, proceed to Step 2.
- 2). Access the "Control Panel" from the Start menu. Choose "Performance and Maintenance."
- 3). Click on "Back Up Your Data."
- 4). Select "Advanced Mode" and then press "Next."
- 5). Select "Backup your Files and Settings"; then press "Next."
- 6). Select the option "All information on this computer."

Click on "Browse" and select a backup location. After you have made your selection, it will be visible as the top spot in the drop-down list under "Choose a place to save your backup." (NOTE: An external hard drive is recommended as the backup location. If you are using an internal DVD-RAM drive, make sure that it has enough space to save the entire disk image.) - 8). Type a name for your backup image disk in the "Type a name for this backup" text box. Click "Next" and when prompted, click "Finish."
- 9). Click "Close" at the completion of the image backup process.
