How to Obtain a Disabled Parking Permit in Tennessee
Instructions
1Determine if you qualify as disabled under Tennessee law and that the disability can be certified by an authorized medical practitioner. You can review the qualifications on the Tennessee disabled persons website.
2
Download the application for Disabled Person License Plate and/or Placard from the Tennessee website and complete the upper part of the form. Indicate the type of permit, either permanent or temporary placard or a disability license plate, that you are applying for. Disabled drivers can apply for disability license plates or placards. Disabled passengers may only apply for placards.
3
Give the application form to your physician or other authorized medical practitioner for certification of the nature of the disability, including whether the disability is temporary or permanent.
4
Take the completed application to your county clerk who collects the fees and issues the disability plates or the disability placards. If the application is mailed to the address on the form, the disability placards are issued by the Department of Safety.
