The Harmful Effects of Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are non biodegradable materials which take almost 1,000 years to decompose causing serious harmful effects on our environment.
In spite of knowing this fact, indiscriminate use of the bags has left us nowhere.
It is not only the responsibility of a particular government to start imposing bans on using plastic bags.
Each one of us living on this planet should be held responsible and must shoulder some responsibility in our own way in minimizing their use as much as possible.
Because of its light weight, it is easy to carry and sustainability.
It has become one of the most convenient items for consumers as well for retailers.
These have been in vogue since ages and still nothing much has been done to get rid off it.
Moreover, plastic bags utilize the petroleum products for its manufacture.
All of us are aware of the fact how rare resource petroleum has become.
All our energy requirements are completely dependent on petroleum products.
Unless alternative resources are discovered, mankind will be using it continuously.
And this in turn, will result in all the natural resources being used up completely.
Imagine a day without petroleum? The whole world will come to a stand still.
Knowing this why should then we use products like plastic bags which are made up of them.
There are alternate ways of carrying stuffs.
The bags made of cloth or recycled materials can be used in place of plastic bags.
Tote bags are the other alternatives.
While the government is taking its own initiative to ban plastic bags, it is ultimately us who should understand the fact and take a vow that we will not use these environmentally unfriendly bags anymore.
