First, you should look for tunneling in wood.
The only way termites can get into the wood is to start off from the surface.
If your structures do not have open holes, look for tiny holes in your wood and check your wooden structures and see if you can notice any signs of blistering.
In time, if termites keep at it and they will, the wood will get weaker and weaker from the insider out.
Second, try taping on your wooden surfaces.
Compare the noise between two or three wooden surfaces spread out throughout your house.
They will all sound relatively the same.
If you happen to come across a surface that sounds like the inside is hollow, you can suspect that there are termite soldiers hard at work eating up the inside of that wooden structure.
