Airlines Target Sports Fans

Even in a tight economy, sports fans are traveling to follow their favorite teams in record numbers. Airline marketing efforts are targeting these avid fans.

Monday morning in most airports, you'll see travelers in business suits scrambling to get to their next meetings. But the Wall Street Journal reports you'll see travelers in NFL jersies returning from Sunday games at that time, too. Fans who follow their favorite teams on the road are prime targets for airlines, who desperately need to find the people still willing to spend money in a recession. They'll take advantage of Bowl season and college football season.

They'll search for dedicated fans at every turn. So as you follow your favorite NCAA basketball team to the "Big Dance," travel to a major NASCAR race or take in World Cup Soccer in 2010, look for the airlines to offer incentives for your business.
