How to Lose Weight and Ease Depression

Depression and weight gain have some common denominators.
Although not every person who is depressed gains weight you can be sure that almost everyone who is grossly over-weight is almost certainly depressed.
Depression, just like weight gain is not a natural body state.
When your body is out of sync either through weight gain or weight loss, you will suffer some emotional hardship.
When you carry excess fat around with you day in and day out, you are slowed down not only physically, but you become mentally lethargic as well.
It's as if all of those pounds are pushing down on your happy bones and causing you to feel heaviness all around you.
And it's no wonder that you feel depressed because you are probably feeling like a big loser when you look at your body and all that it has become.
You can't quite remember how you got to this place and you are uncertain how you can escape it.
You have probably learned to equate your real self to your physical body and as a result feel sadden by how you look.
There really is no need to talk about what you should have or could have done to stop the progression down this path because what is has already been done.
However, you have as much power as you have always had when it comes to deciding on how it is you will look.
You can either continue to do nothing or you can begin today to make a change.
But if decide to do nothing then you understand that your depression and guilt will only continue to persist.
You can start your journey to better health and greater happiness if you will begin this journey by staying focused on a day by day bases of what you can do.
Do not become overwhelmed by looking months or years ahead and feeling that you are trying to do the impossible.
Instead, start today by doing these things:
  • Make time to do at least twenty minutes of brisk walking three times a week
  • Start drinking at least four, eight ounces of water everyday
  • Forgive yourself for not having taken better care of yourself
  • Accept today who you are instead of waiting to accept who you will become
Obviously, you will want to talk with your doctor to make sure that the brisk walking and water drinking is safe for you, but forgiving yourself and accepting yourself is something healing that we can all do for ourselves.
And finally, remember that no amount of living in the past is going to create a healthy future you.
