How to Avoid Lower Blood Pressure
- 1). Change your diet. Your doctor may advise you to avoid alcohol, increase salt intake and decrease caffeine consumption. Consider eating smaller, more frequent meals.
- 2). Drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids. This is especially important during hot weather or during exercise.
- 3). Rise slowly from a sitting or lying down position. Sit on the edge of the bed for a minute before standing up.
- 4). Monitor your blood pressure every day and keep a record. Report any issues to your doctor.
- 5). Seek treatment for any underlying medical condition that could be the cause of hypotension.
- 6). Take any prescribed medications as directed. Tell your doctor about any over-the-counter medications you are taking.
- 7). Participate in a regular exercise program. Exercise will increase blood flow.
