How to Remove an Impala SS Air Pump

    • 1). Open up the hood. Locate the serpentine belt tensioner on the lower passenger side of the engine, next to the crankshaft. Put a socket on the 3/8-inch breaker bar and turn the tensioner clockwise to release tension on the belt. Pull the belt off of the air pump, which is on the lower right corner of the engine block.

    • 2). Remove the hose clamps holding the rubber hoses on the air pump to the body of the air pump, using a pair of pliers. Unplug the electrical connection on the pump with your hands.

    • 3). Unbolt the air pump from the air pump bracket on the engine using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Lift it up and out of the engine bay with both hands.
