Sand Art Instructions
- Choose a colorful cereal or candy such as Fruit Loops, Trix or Skittles. Sort the cereal or candy by color, and seal each color into a plastic bag. Crush the candy or cereal in each bag with a rolling pin or the back of a large spoon. Use the crushed edibles as sand. Pour layers of individual colors through a funnel into a clear glass bottle or jar. Securely screw a lid on the jar to prevent spillage.
- Purchase a sand art kit online or at a craft supply store. These kits will come with sand in a variety of colors as well as clear plastic or glass bottles. Most sand art kits are under $15. Pour layers of color through a funnel into the bottle or jar. Vary the amounts of each color you use for irregular stripes. Poke a long toothpick down into the sand-filled bottle to create vertical streaks of color. Fasten a cork onto the jar or bottle with strong glue.
- You can make sand art magnets with inexpensive craft supplies or with kits. Purchase a kit online or find flat wooden shapes, glue, magnets and craft sand at an art supply store. You can decorate the wood with acrylic paint before adding sand if you wish. To add different colors of sand to the wood, cover individual areas with glue, add sand, and let glue dry before adding a second color. Pour excess sand onto newspaper at your work area. Let the glue dry thoroughly before attaching magnets to the back of the wood pieces.
