How to Make Chibi Art

    • 1). Sketch two circles with a pencil on drawing paper. There should be one circle on top of the other. Most chibi art characters are no more than two heads in size. Sketch a cross on the top circle to center your face.

    • 2). Sketch out your chibi character's arms and legs. It will take on a mannequin appearance at first. This will help give you an idea of how you would like to pose your chibi character. The arms and legs should be short and straight. Or, they may take on a stout, rounded shape instead.

    • 3). Define your chibi character's hands and feet. The hands should be small with short fingers. The feet on a chibi character need to come to a short nub at the end. Drawing out an actual foot is not necessary for chibi art. The idea is to keep it short, straight and simple. Sketch a line where the foot separates from the leg to define your character's shoes.

    • 4). Draw in your chibi character's facial features. The eyes should be very large, almost taking up half the face. Shade in the pupils of the eyes and leave a few round highlights for light reflection. The nose is usually just a small, short line or a small bit of shading. In chibi art, the nose is almost nonexistent. The mouth is mostly a short line or a letter "D" shape on its side for an open mouth. The hair of chibi art character designs are often extreme, such as large locks or spiky hair.

    • 5). Fill in the details of your cChibi's clothes. Small details are key in chibi art. Shade in your character, if desired. Erase any sketch lines you do not want showing in your drawing when finished.
