Tres Picos
On day three after breakfast at Lake Jatun Puqa Q'ocha, climb up to Apuchata pass (4900m) and look down at Laguna Ausangate, fed from the melting snow of Ausangate. As you descend to lake level, you will head uphill again to Palomani pass (5200m), the highest point of the trek, then descend into the Finaya Pampa, for an overnight stay.
Day four, after the rigorous climbs over the passes, the trek past Tres Picos and Puca Punta is an easy trail along Pampa Jutunpata valley where the Rio Qampa valley provides a home for wildlife.
You might see vizcacha, vicuñas, and other wildlife. You might stop for a break before heading to the final pass of this hike, the Qampa pass (5000m).
