- There are several reasons a woman might need to give birth through a C-section, including health problems, the position of the baby and the size of the baby.
- There are risks for both the mother and baby when delivering through a C-section. According to Mayo Clinic, some risks are that the baby is more likely to have breathing problems, and the mother could develop an infection in the uterus.
- Some effects women might experience after having a C-section include fatigue and discomfort at the area of incision.
- A woman should contact her doctor after having a C-section if she experiences any of the following symptoms: a fever of more than 100.4 F, severe abdominal pain, discharge at the incision or excessive vaginal bleeding.
- It takes four to six weeks for a woman to heal from a C-section. To aid the healing, she should avoid sex, take any prescribed medications and support the abdomen when making sudden movements, such as sneezing or coughing.
