How to Report Handicap Parking Violations

    • 1). Report to your local police department or county clerk's office. Ask if your community has a volunteer program you can participate in to help keep track of handicapped parking offenders and citations. If they have such a program, join.

    • 2). Attend the volunteer force training course provided by the police department. These training courses vary from department to department. Some are six hours and others are only four hours. During this training, you will learn about the handicapped parking laws, what to look for when you are on the streets and the forms you will need to fill out.

    • 3). Patrol your area for possible handicapped parking violations. You will need to have your camera and citation booklet with you at all times in case you catch a violation.

    • 4). Take photos of the vehicle that is in violation of handicapped parking laws. Make sure you get the car from multiple angles and include the license plate in the photographs as well.

    • 5). Write a citation according to the procedure you learned in training. Leave the citation on the windshield of the vehicle.

    • 6). Turn your information into your volunteer supervisor. The supervisor will keep track of your productivity during your shifts. Your productivity rating may qualify you for awards within the program.

    • 7). Attend court and testify against the offender. You will be required in most programs to attend the trial. Your supervisor may attend your first case with you to help ease you into the process.
