How to Fold Hina Dolls

    • 1). Lay a piece of origami paper on a flat surface, with the colored side down. Fold the paper horizontally by bringing two adjacent corners together to make a triangle to make the base of the Hina doll.

    • 2). Fold the bottom corners of the Hina doll's triangle base together, firmly press the fold with a thumb and unfold the corners to make a crease line down the center. Fold the bottom corners along the center crease line.

    • 3). Turn the Hina doll origami over and fold the two outside corners along the center crease line. Open the fold back up and fold the top corner down slightly passed the midpoint.

    • 4). Fold the midpoint corner back up roughly 1/8-inch from the top to create a pleat, which will form the collar of the Hina doll's robe.

    • 5). Fold the two outer corners back down the center crease line. Fold a flap of the bottom corner up and turn the Hina doll over.

    • 6). Fold the two flaps folded along the center crease to the outside roughly 1/8-inch out from the the edge of the Hina doll. Fold the remaining flap of the bottom corner up.

    • 7). Decorate the Hina doll by drawing or painting a face and hair on the doll, and by decorating the dress. Keep the head pointed for an emperor, but square off the head for an empress.
