How to Make Awesome Lighting Effects in Adobe After Effects

    • 1). Launch Adobe After Effects from the "Start" menu or desktop shortcut.

    • 2). Click the "File" tab and point to "Import." Select "File." Browse to navigate to the video that you wish to import. Single-click the file and click "Open."

    • 3). Drag the video from the top left corner of the main window down to the timeline at the bottom.

    • 4). Go to the exact frame where you wish to insert the lightning effect. You can do this by dragging the red vertical pointer on the timeline and scrolling through the video. Stop scrolling once you see the exact frame in the preview window.

    • 5). Click the "Edit" tab on the top menu and choose "Split layer." At this point, your movie will be split into two layers.

    • 6). Click the "Effect" tab on the top menu and point to "Generate." Select the "Lightning" option. At this point, you will see a lightning effect on the chosen frame.

    • 7). Click and drag the little circle at both ends of the lightning bolt to resize and position the lightning bolt in the frame.

    • 8). Repeat the above steps to produce multiple lightning bolts in the same frame.

    • 9). Click and drag the red vertical bar on the timeline to play the video with the lightning effect.

      Click the "File" tab and choose "Save" to save the effect.
