How to Push Pins Into Straws

    • 1). Place a small amount of tape around the area of the straw you wish to push the pin into. This will help prevent the pin from moving and splitting the straw once it has been pushed through.

    • 2). Place a ball of Blu-Tack, or other type of putty onto a hard surface, such as the desk or table on which you are working. Place the straw or straws on top of this. Push the pin through the straws and into the Blu-Tack. This will prevent damage to the surface, and allow the pin to pass easily through the straw.

    • 3). Split the tines of the cotter pin and hold in place with a small piece of tape. If you are using a regular push pin, you may wish to tape a small amount of Blu-Tack to the end to prevent pricking.

    • 4). Repeat as necessary to create a structure or design of your choosing. Although a pin will make the object heavier, it will allow for pivot points in your design.
