Ovarian Cancer Help
- Do not delay treatment. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), women who treat ovarian cancer at its earliest stage have a higher survival rate. The survival rate for curing early stage ovarian cancer is 93 percent, whereas the later stages have a 45-percent survival rate.
- Take extra time to rest and eat a nutritious diet. According to the Mayo Clinic, eating well, relaxing often and getting enough sleep helps reduce stress and fatigue caused by ovarian cancer. Reducing work hours or commitments helps free up time to relax.
- Join a cancer support group. According to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada (OCAN), cancer support groups provide a place to talk with other cancer patients about coping with ovarian cancer. Other cancer patients can also provide advice about cancer treatment, other ways to cope and how to deal with its symptoms.
- Create a strong support network. This can include friends, family, close co-workers and important religious figures. Having a strong support network improves the survival rate and helps the cancer patient cope with feelings, such as guilt, depression or anxiety. Friends and family can also help take over everyday tasks made difficult by ovarian cancer, such as grocery shopping or cooking dinner.
