New to Social Media? You Need to Know This

As a social media manager, I have to remind myself that not everybody knows what I know when it comes to using social networks to market businesses.
It may sound odd, but I know people who still have not opened Facebook accounts! In my work, too, I've known some business people who haven't done so, either, mainly because another person in the company took care of it.
Of course, by the time they came to me for help, nobody could remember logins or figure out how to work their Facebook pages.
If you are new to social media, there's no need to feel overwhelmed or even reluctant to market via the Internet.
You might wonder if your message will get lost in the noise, but I believe you can reach your audience if they actively seek your information.
You can either put it out for people to see or do nothing as customers (and income) bypasses you.
Hiring a firm to manage your social media is one way to ensure people find you via mobile means and virally; you also have the option of bringing somebody in-house who is close to the action and can help you create a viable online marketing plan.
On days when you need to access your social media, you need to know what to do and when.
It's important that, regardless of who manages your accounts, that you have login access to everything and that the password recovery e-mails go to an account you can access.
With this in mind, please note the following: 1) There are no direct logins to Facebook pages.
If you wish to view the stats of your Facebook page and ask your social media person for the password, he will probably tell you that page must be access from an account with admin access.
You can be given administrator status on your personal account, which allows you to see the backend.
Often I'm asked for the password to pages, and have to explain this.
I imagine many people think I'm trying to give them the runaround because they'll keep asking for a password.
Since I do not wish to give them access to my personal account, I have to keep driving this home.
2) You should know exactly how your social accounts are connected.
For example, your Facebook page may be connected to Twitter, so that every status update is tweeted.
Also, your company's Instagram may be connected to Facebook and Twitter, also.
There are many ways to hook up social networks so you can kill several birds with one stone.
If you just want to reach a specific audience, know how to use your social media only to tweet or distribute via Facebook.
Take the time to go over social media strategies with your marketing team.
It's always good to stay on top of campaigns.
Don't feel intimidated if you don't "get" social media immediately.
You will learn in time.
