Ferozepur: Building contractors asked to register workers with Labour Board

FEROZEPUR: Punjab Building & other Construction Welfare Board have made arrangements for financial assistance to registered labourer and their families for the purpose of treatment of 16 different diseases, lever transplant, heart surgery, cancer and jaundice etc.
This information was given by the Deputy Commissioner, Dr.S.Karuna Raju while holding a meeting with the representatives of labour department, army, Lok Nirman Panchayat Vibhag, construction companies and labour contractors. However, to get the benefits of this scheme, one will have to register his name with the labour department. He said that each beneficiary has to fill one form by depositing a fee of Rs.25 and every month Rs.10 has to be paid.
Dr.Raju said that the labour working in Punjab and those who had come from other states will also be eligible to get the benefit of the schemes but the proof of 90 days working has to be given by the labourer. He further informed that insurance of labourer and members of their family, of Rs.30,000 is done under National Health Insurance Plan and in the event of death of labourer during working or declared as hundred per cent disabled, an ex-gratia grant of Rs.one lakh will be and Rs.50,000 to those declared as disabled.
He also informed that there is also a provision of giving financial assistantace for education purposes to the children of labourer as 1st to 5th class Rs.75, 6th to 8th class Rs.100 per month, 9th to 12th class Rs.1500 yearly, for BA, MA, MSc. Rs.1800, for medical engineering courses Rs.15000 yearly. An interest free loan of Rs.30,000 will also given on the marriage of a daughter of the labourer will also be given, in addition Rs.5100 under €shagun scheme'. However, those enjoying the interest free loan scheme, will not be eligible for €shagun scheme'.
He further informed that interest free loan to the labourer for purchase of cycle Rs.2500, sewing machine Rs.1000, fan Rs.800, television Rs.5000, for computer Rs.15000 and for purchasing wheat Rs.2500, will also be available. However, it was made clear that the loan/financial assistance will be approved on the guarantee of contractors/ organizers and they will deposit the month installment after deducting from the salary of the labourer.
Deputy Commissioner directed the Assistant Labour Commissioner S.S.Bandi to display big hoardings about the welfare schemes for the laborers at the construction and public places so that they may enjoy the labour schemes to the maximum.
