At the start of the announcement of results in the morning, it was SAD which was sad but the final results have given it a reason for jubilation.
Several political careers, future alliances and even the road to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections have been decided with the declaration of Assembly Elections of 117 seats in Punjab €" (Congress-47, SAD-BJP-68, and Others-3)
First of all, the credit for increase in poll percentage of 78.57% in 2012 Assembly Elections goes to Election Commission of India, for gearing up the lower level administration in enrolment of voters and distributing the voters slip at the door step, for making it easy to cast the vote by the voters. It was 75.66% in 2002 and then decreased in 2007 elections to 70.04%.
The Congress has not been able to come to its expectations. From the results trend, it is seen that change incumbency has not worked and the only factor that has shown miracle for BJP-SAD is the local personal influence.
Even Dera factor has not worked in favour of Congress. The logic given behind this issue is that the local persons have some understanding with the Dera Chief that they have to get the work done from the local administration while €He€ being out of the state, the voting should be left to the local understanding.
Until, you empower the local leader, none of the national party is going to strengthen its status. The future of any party is a local leader.
If Congress is in not a position to retain its power status, in the Punjab then it could also be emerged that even Anna Hazare corruption movement has not worked whereas it was the main issue for bringing a change, Anna damaged the image of Congress.
There are number of factors and variety of reasons involved for winning. The idealistic manifesto of PPP has not made any impact which proves that manifestos have no relevancy and has not to play any role in the elections. Even the local youth candidate factor of PPP has not worked because of the fact that he and his party was new to the politics.
But it is an admitted fact that he has made a base in the politics and if he does carefully, he can create a niche in the politics. Only secularism was the agenda and nothing was different in his agenda. Thus, manifestos have no importance as is evident from the idealistic manifesto given by the PPP.
Today's results have been seen as crucial for the UPA government at the centre as this could affect equations, strengthen or weaken it. As per the media advisor of SAD, the major factor that during the elections only the issues were raised about the development so far done and future plans. He is of the view that Sukhbir Singh Badal is a realistic economist and he has the ideas and visions with a long term strategy, by virtue of his higher qualification in administration.
To put in a nutshell, Congress has failed to show its worth despite heavy claims and has to wait for another term. The coming five years will again be a challenge for the Congress as to prepare themselves for the next elections.
