Intrauterine Fibroids and Breast Fibroids - Are They Related?

Many of womens' problems are attributed to hormonal imbalance, especially the elevated level of estrogens.
These include abnormal growth in breast, uterine and ovaries.
Estrogen dominance can occur earlier in life due to consumption of harmful processed foods and environment.
The harmful ingredients therein should ideally be removed in the liver; however impaired functioning of the liver can allow accumulation of excessive quantity of estrogen which, in turn, feeds the abnormal growths, often referred to as fibroids, tumors or cancers.
Other factors that are implicated in development of fibroids in breasts are hormones like prolactin, growth factor, thyroid hormone and insulin.
Estrogen is closely linked to the growth of fibroids in both the cases.
In case of the growth of breast fibroids (also known as fibrocystic breast disease, fibroid breasts, mammary dysplasia, benign breast disease and diffuse cystic mastopathy), additional boost comes from extra estrogen produced in the glandular and fat cells of breasts.
An important point is that presence of breast fibroids do not cause or induce the growth of intrauterine fibroids; neither does the growth of fibroids in the later induce their growth in the former.
If present simultaneously, it is a mere co-incidence.
Who is Likely to Suffer from Fibroids Both the types of fibroids are generally seen to occur in women who are older than 30.
About one-third of such occurrences are related to the menstrual hormonal cycle.
Development of the fibroid can occur anytime after puberty and may continue until the time of menopause; it has been observed that they diffuse on their own following menopause.
Causes Excessive consumptions of alcohol, caffeine (coffee), fat ( especially saturated fats), red meat, refined and processed foods, white sugar and carbonated drinks are known to promote the growth of fibroids in uterus as well s breasts.
Symptoms Whereas the symptoms of intrauterine fibroids include Uterine fibroids cause a number of symptoms, including heavy menstruation, bleeding between periods, pain during intercourse, pelvic /abdominal-rectal pain, feeling of abdominal bloating and increased urination, that for breast fibroids include tenderness and rubbery feel (to touch) of the affected part of the breast, itching sensation, dull continuous ache which increases intermittently to sever pain.
Treatments Treatments recommended for intrauterine fibroids include hysterectomy, myomectomy, uterine fibroid embolization, etc.
Breast fibroids are treated by taking oral contraceptives to lower estrogen levels or surgical removal from the breast.
Natural Healing Similarly, to treat the fibroid condition naturally, diet that include plenty of raw vegetables ( especially dark green leafy ones) and fruits, whole foods, whole grains like buckwheat, brown rice, oats, spices like garlic, foods that re rich in Omega 3 and 6, legumes like beans, peanuts, soybeans, peas, etc.
Add foods that contain high level of iron (molasses, spinach, kale) when treating intrauterine fibroids to compensate for loss through excessive bleeding.
If obese, try to reduce the inches, particularly from the waistline, to normal level as estrogen, which provokes fibroid growth, is stored in adipose (fat).
Both types of fibroids are not as harmful as many other diseases that women face.
However, patients should certainly take steps to consciously eradicate them in consultation with their physician.
