How to Make a Pig Nose Out of Clay
- 1). Soften ¼ cup of clay by kneading it in your hands.
- 2). Roll the clay beneath your hands in a circular motion on your work surface to shape it into a ball. Switch to a back-and-forth rolling motion to make an elliptical shape about 4 inches long.
- 3). Turn the oval shape on its end and press it against your work surface to flatten the ends, forming a cylinder.
- 4). Hold the cylinder pressed gently between your palms with the flat ends pressed flush against your hands. Gently press and roll your hands toward each other, as if you were playing an accordion; this will slightly squish the tube and put some large wrinkles in the sides of the shape.
- 5). Choose one end of the cylinder to be the snout. Pinch the clay around the edges to form one side of the round end into a shape somewhere between a broad heart shape and that of a capital “D.”
- 6). Use the sharp tip of the bamboo skewer to poke two holes in the middle of the snout. Place these slightly closer to the rounded, wide side of the snout than to the middle of it. Stir the skewer around in the clay to make the holes about three times the diameter of the skewer itself.
- 7). Press the snout against a piece of soft, shiny leather to make an impression of the skin lines and shapes on the clay.
- 8). Bake the clay according to the manufacturer's instructions or let it air harden, depending on the type of clay.
