Chevy Water Pump Installation
- 1). Remove the negative terminal from the battery using a wrench to loosen the nut. Open the valve on the bottom of the radiator with a wrench and drain the coolant into the drain pan.
- 2). Loosen the bolts on the water pump pulley using a wrench. Lift the accessory belt off the water pump pulley. Take the bolts out of the water pump pulley and pull it out of the engine compartment. Loosen the hose clamp on the water pump hose and pull it off the pump.
- 3). Remove the water pump mounting bolts using a socket and ratchet. Pull the water pump away from the engine. Clean any remaining gasket material away from the mounting surface using a scraper tool.
- 4). Place a new gasket and the water pump on the engine and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Connect the hose to the water pump and tighten the clamp with the screwdriver.
- 5). Place the water pump pulley on the pump and loosely install the bolts. Place the accessory belt over the water pump pulley and tighten the bolts with the wrench.
- 6). Refill the radiator and reservoir with coolant. Start the car and check the system for leaking.
