How to Purchase Traveler's Checks in Euros

    • 1). Go to your bank, credit union, transfer exchange or other agency associated with the brand of traveler's check you wish to purchase. In many cases, services are available online or via the phone.

    • 2). Give the cashier the correct amount of currency for the traveler's checks you wish to buy and specify that the preferred currency for the traveler's checks is euros. That day's monetary exchange rate will be used to calculate the purchase price of the traveler's check. Exchange rates change in accordance with market fluctuations and often change from day to day.

    • 3). Examine your checks upon receipt to ensure that the amount you ordered is the amount you received and that the checks are in euros. If all the details are correct, sign the checks to activate them.

    • 4). Get photocopies of all the original traveler's checks. Other people you are paying may require proof of ownership and the bank where you bought the check will require proof to be able to refund their value to you in case your check is lost or is stolen. Always keep the checks in safe place.

    • 5). Carry the check numbers and contact information for the issuing agency in a place separate from the checks themselves. You will need this information to have replacement checks issued if the ones you carry are lost or stolen.

    • 6). Keep copies of your receipt and transaction record in two or more places to ensure you will have a record on hand if you need to claim a refund.
