For a lot of people this is not a serious issue but there are lots of people that see this as a major problem. Year after year they assembled all kind of things that of course had to be stored somewhere. Until the moment comes that your living space become smaller and smaller. That is the moment you have to come into action before it is too late.

This article is about how to organize your room. Other subject related articles will follow later on.

Do you have a room in your house that is packed full of stuff you never really use, but you never bothered to throw away? Does your room always feel like its messy and crowded? If so, working on decluttering your room and organizing it can do wonders to help make you enjoy that room once more.

Organizing any room does not just entail being able to find the things you need when you want them, but it is also about creating a calm, clean, and welcoming environment where you can relax and efficiently work without the burden of stress that clutter can create. As with any process, you need to begin by knowing the purpose of the room you want to organize, identifying the major things you want to keep or throw away, taking everything out and then putting everything back together. It will take quite a bit of time and effort, but with enough determination, it can be done with positive and lasting results. With that in mind, here are a few helpful tips on how to organize your room to achieve that place of Zen and peace you can consider your sanctuary.

You need to have a plan. You need to think of the purpose of the room and what activities will be performed in that room. Is the purpose of the room TV viewing, exercising, playing games, reading, sewing/crafts, sleeping, serving as a home office or surfing the internet? After determining the purpose and function of the room, make a list of the items required to perform the activities typically done there. How much space do need for each activity and where can you store items relevant to the room when they are not being used? Some find it helpful to make a sketch or drawing of the room to get a better view of the planned output and to just play around with possible layout of furniture.

Next, in order to organize the room you need to purge, sort, replace and maintain. Begin by selling, donating or throwing away any thing you think is unnecessary. Go through your closets, drawers or any storage areas within in the room and throw away rubbish. Identify items you want to stay in the room and place them in strategic places within the room so that they are conveniently available. You need to be consistent with where you place things so as not to create more clutter. If you have left over storage space within the room, it is perfectly acceptable to store other less frequently used items there in closets, cabinets, shelving and drawers. Just make sure everything is clearly labelled and neatly organized and placed. You may even want to replace an old bulky TV or treadmill with newer more space efficient ones. Lastly, you need to keep your room clean. Maintaining a tidy and organized room can take some effort but the rewards are worth it.

Having an organized and effectively laid out room can be a very positive thing. Just visualize the room you desire, be bold enough to throw away the junk, take the time to sort and organize and then be consistent in maintaining your organized room. It all comes down to you. If you want to achieve it, it can happen, you just need to begin.
