Common Tickets and the Traffic Lawyer

When a motorist gets into trouble with the law, a traffic lawyer will be able to offer guidance. Some offenses are more severely punished than others. The severity is often ranked in a system of points with the punishment escalating along with the number of points accrued. Many drivers forget about the potential issues that can occur when they get behind the wheel. Driving to and fro becomes such a commonplace event that many details and consequences may be overlooked. Such inattention can end up in disastrous consequences in terms of legal ramifications and in harm to property or people. Here are some of the most common tickets received for motoring mishaps and mistakes:

- Speeding: Going over the posted speed limit happens day in and day out. People are in a hurry, not paying attention or did not notice a decline in the posted limits. The severity of this mishap will depend on how many MPH a car is actually going. Certain regions such as school zones or those with construction workers present will also have more dire consequences.

- DUI or DWI: These initials stand for driving under the influence or while intoxicated. These can actually result in a felony charge. People may think these charges are only for people who are sloppy-drunk but this is not the case. Even stopping at the pub for a beer or two can result in a DUI or DWI charge. Bodily response times, reactions and judgment can all be impaired with much less alcohol than many people might imagine.

- Running a red light: Some people think that seeing the "yellow" light means to go faster. They may have forgotten their early drivers' training courses where they were taught to slow down and be prepared to stop when the yellow warning light alerts them of the red one coming up. Motorists who push it to the limit often sail through the red stoplight. They might just be in a huge rush and think it's no big deal. Unfortunately, this is a major cause of collisions that result in injuries and death on the road.

- No turn signal: Flicking on the turn signal should be as habitual as breathing, but for many careless drivers, it's not. When they suddenly turn off the road, cars behind them are startled and this negligent action can result in bang ups.

- Driving in the carpool lane: The carpool lane was originally designed to allow ecologically savvy carpoolers to be rewarded by a freer, quicker lane. The more travelers that go together in one vehicle, the less gasoline consumption that is needed. Unfortunately, many motorists decide to speed along in that lane even though they don't have any passengers. Some have been known to ride with a mannequin in the passengers' seat in order to fool the police.

When a motorist makes a mistake on the road, the repercussions can be unpleasant. Worst case scenarios include death and destruction. It's far preferable to get a ticket, fine and have to call in a savvy traffic lawyer.
