Father of the Bride Toasts - Blunders to Avoid

Father of bride toasts are special because this is where the father of the bride gives his blessings to the newly married couple.
It is usually an emotional moment, followed by laughter and cheers.
I myself have attended a lot of weddings and although some of the speeches had been memorable, there are a few where you wish the father of the bride had been more considerate and sensitive to others.
Take a look at the following blunders that must be avoided when giving father of bride toasts: Stealing the spotlight.
Keep in mind that the two most special people for that day are the newlyweds.
This is not the time to talk about you or your marriage.
You've had your chance on your own wedding.
Focus your message on the bride and the groom.
What do you want to say to them? Complement the bride and welcome the groom to your family.
Talking too long.
Some people are born talkers and they do love to talk.
If you are a natural born story teller save your stories for another occasion.
When you get up to deliver your speech for everyone, be conscious of the time as you also want to give chance to other speakers.
As the bride's father, you have the privilege to speak first.
However, keep it short yet meaningful.
A 10-minute speech is too long for your audience to bear.
Tipsy speech.
If you love to drink wine, keep it moderate.
It is so sad to see a father of the bride giving out a speech while tipsy or drunk.
People can do and say the most embarrassing things when they've had too much to drink.
So take it easy on alcohol.
Telling humiliating stories.
Yes, you want to keep it light and humorous but don't try to be funny at the expense of others.
You don't want to hurt anyone's feelings on this solemn occasion.
Avoid telling stories which can humiliate the bride or put her in an embarrassing situation.
Using offensive language.
Watch out that language! Remember that there are children present in the audience so keep your speech wholesome and clean.
