Installing Parquet Flooring

    • 1). To determine how much flooring you will need, measure the length and width of the room, then multiply these numbers together. Add 20 percent to this amount to account for cutting errors or discolored or damaged tiles. This extra stock will also be useful for future maintenance and repair.

    • 2). Start along the longest wall of the room, leaving a 1/4" gap between the wall and the tiles to allow for expansion. Lay the tiles out with no adhesive so you can decide on the right pattern for your room. Wait until you are satisfied with the layout before proceeding.

    • 3). Move to one corner of the room and remove the tiles from an area that's approximately 3 square feet. Use a trowel to spread a thin layer of adhesive to the floor, then gently set the tiles back into place, maintaining the pattern you decided upon earlier.

    • 4). Continue laying tiles and securing them using adhesive. When you reach the end of a row, use a jigsaw to cut the tiles to fit the space. Be careful to make cuts in a way that doesn't negatively affect the design.

    • 5). Install a toe molding into place around the perimeter of the room with a hammer and nails. This will cover the expansion joints and help to finish off the look.
