The usual methods to control the growth of termites and white ants and other pests are to use various chemicals, which are hazardous for the nature.
Thus, when stuck in such situations when you do not want to use these anti-eco chemicals but on the other hand you have no other option left, opt for natural termite prevention and control measures.
It is said 'prevention is better than cure'.
Termites and other such pests can damage your house by spoiling all your wooden furniture and make your house hollow from inside.
You not only loose furniture but also money when you want to sell the house off.
The best way to tackle this nuisance is to take adequate and effective natural preventive measures.
You will not have to face a difficult situation if the situation is not created in the first place.
Natural Termite Prevention Tips:
  • The entry point for termites to enter your house is through soil to wood contact or through wood to wood contact.
Try to seal all the point of contacts, where soil and wood of your house is in contact.
Make sure that the foundation or base of your house is at least 5 to 6 inches above the ground.
Also, stash away all the wood lumbers and logs for the fireplace or for some other purpose safely out of the house.
  • Termites cannot survive at temperature more than 120 degrees.
You can use heat on an active termite colony.
However, it is easy to do on a small termite colony.
However, when your whole house is affected, then you have to use the 'Tenting Method'.
  • Use the old and tested preventive measure by using Boric Acid.
This acid is easily available at Home improvement stores and at hardware stores.
This acid is available in a 'white powdered form' and can be used in treating various pest problems other than termites too.
The best way to use this acid is to use it as a preventive measure and not as a cure.
There are three ways in which you can use it as prevention:
  • Before using the wood inside your house for making furniture or any other purpose, treat it with this acid.
This way, there will be no chance for the termites to attack on the wood for a long time.
  • Prepare a solution of this acid by mixing it in water.
Spray this solution at the outer of your house.
If possible, you can also spray it inside the house.
  • Use it on an active termite colony.
To do this, soak a piece of wood in boric acid and water solution.
Place this wood piece in the termite colony.
Chances are that the termites will start feeding on the wood and will die.
These natural preventive tips will not only help you get rid of termites, but will also be easy on the environment.
