How to Make a Normal Picture Into a Cartoon

    • 1). Study the subject in your photo. Look for basic shapes that can be used to create a cartoon version.

    • 2). Cartoon humans by using basic shapes such as circles for the head and torso, and stretched out ovals for arms and legs. Joints, hands and feet can also be represented by circles. Use your pencil to sketch these shapes loosely and lightly based upon their positions in the photo.

    • 3). Make the cartoon three-dimensional by transforming circles into spheres and the stretched ovals into cylinders. Draw right on top of the basic shapes, making the pencil marks slightly darker so that it is more visible.

    • 4). Sketch in the details lightly over the three-dimensional forms. Add details such as circular cartoon eyes and curved lines for a mouth. Draw over the details with darker lines when you are satisfied with them. Draw the outline of your subject.

    • 5). Use a Micron or Pitt Pen to ink over your finished pencil cartoon drawing. Fill in dark areas with black and keep the light areas white. Establish a solid outline for the cartoon. Erase any structure lines with a kneaded eraser.
