How to Paint Cartoons

    • 1). Scan your image on your computer via a flatbed scanner, converting it into a common computer file such as a .gif or a .jpg.

    • 2). Open your computer graphics software and open your cartoon's file. Look for the selection tool on the right hand side of the screen within the toolbar.

    • 3). Click on the section you would like to color, creating a moving dotted line around it. Then choose the fill tool, which looks like a bucket of pouring paint.

    • 4). Choose the color with which you would like to fill the selection from the right-hand side of the screen. Adjust the settings on the "fill" controls to adjust the coloring settings and automatically add shading or other features.

    • 5). Choose colors that contrast each other and tinker around with several different color schemes to see if they work. You can always undo a color choice through the edit menu.
