Staying Focused - Is It Really That Hard?
Focus.
If we were living in dreamland, focusing would be really easy.
Too bad we're living in the real world.
Sometimes, focusing can be an uphill struggle.
Let's go through some points I find have helped me to stay focused on what I do.
Why is it so hard to stay focused? First of all, why is it so hard to stay focused? Well, we can argue - we can get distracted easily or we're just the hyper type who never knows how to sit still.
But then, is that really the case? Or, are we giving ourselves some excuses to make us feel better? Sure, it could be that the distractions are just too immense.
But, does that mean we need to give in to them! Maybe it's just boredom or maybe we're finding the tasks at hand quite hard - maybe that's why we'd rather get distracted than giving all our concentration on our tasks.
After all, if you never try, you'll never fail.
If you have these kinds of thoughts in your head, ask yourself this "Is failure really that nice?".
As I see it, when you HAVE to do something, may as well give your very best to it.
That way, even when you've failed, you'll know that you've given you're all - maybe it just needed more.
This can then be a motivator for you to improve on yourself.
Put the end in mind Sometimes, we can be a bit pessimistic about the future.
The 'what ifs' in our head keep on coming back and forth.
This is one key reason why we cannot focus - we think too much of what may happen that we prevent ourselves from working to avoid it.
Stop those negative thoughts and have confidence in yourself.
Tell yourself you will work hard and you will achieve what you want to achieve.
When you've given your best, shouldn't you get the best in return? Set yourself some targets So, you've gotten rid of those negative thoughts in your head and all you want to do now is keep your eyes on success.
Only one question - how? It's not that hard, just set yourself some targets and come up with strategies to help you meet those targets of yours.
One way or another, it will help you to focus.
Let your target be your focus.
Less daydreaming, more working Targets are easy to set, but would be difficult to meet if you spend more time on daydreaming about meeting it than working towards it.
So, before you let your mind wonder off in dreamland, remind yourself "I've spent more time daydreaming than I do working - do I really want to carry on that way?"
