How to Build Buildings From Boxes for School Kids
- 1). Gather empty cardboard containers from around your home, such as pasta, diaper, cereal and oatmeal boxes. Stuff them with scrap newspaper to make them more durable.
- 2). Blend one cup of flour and one cup of water in a mixing bowl with a spoon to create a papier-mache mixture. Tear strips of newspaper, dip them in the mixture, and alternate applying the wet strips horizontally and vertically in a weaving pattern over each box. Cover the boxes completely with the papier-mache strips until no cardboard is visible and allow to dry overnight.
- 3). Paint each dry box with washable paint, using a paintbrush and wearing a protective covering such as an art smock. Place the wet boxes in a secure place to dry, untouched.
- 4). Decorate the buildings with decorative art supplies. For example, glue construction paper rectangles to the box as windows and doors. Use wooden craft sticks to frame windows and doors. For larger boxes, glue half of a toilet paper roll to the top as a chimney. Glue small craft flowers along the bottom of a building for landscaping. You can also use other items from around the house.
