Our Solution to Improving the Environment
We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
~Native American Proverb We understand how important it is to preserve our environment not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.
It is shocking to hear the statistics of how much pollution is in the air, the amount of food being wasted daily and what is happening to the soil we grow our crops.
Instead of standing by watching our environment get worse, we decided to do something about it.
We created a solution to help resolve this problem.
The Problem Every year Americans throw away over 30 million tons of food; this is almost ΒΌ of all landfill waste.
To help you visualize this, imagine filling the Rose Bowl Stadium once every three days with nothing but food waste.
This statistic is shocking.
We as Americans waste too much food, and we are clogging our landfills unnecessarily.
However, food waste creates a much bigger problem than just filling up our landfills.
As this food sits and decomposes in our landfills (or anywhere else) it releases the greenhouse gases.
Greenhouse gases such as, Carbon Dioxide, CO2, capture and retain heat in the atmosphere.
CO2 emissions from all the cars account for 13 percent of all greenhouse gases.
The U.
S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says methane, another greenhouse gas, is 20 times more damaging to the environment than CO2.
Landfills and rotting food are the number one source of methane emissions.
Food waste creates almost as much methane as cars produce CO2! A Better Environment This problem is bigger than most people realize.
We need to do something about it now to make our environment better.
We can't wait to give this problem to future generations.
Instead of clogging our landfills and gassing the air we breathe, we need to find a better solution.
One that will improve the environment instead of making it worse.
Gardeners need to be able to plant their fruits and vegetables in soil that helps them grow healthier and stronger.
Mothers need to feel confident when they take their children outside that they are breathing clean air.
If we sit back and continue to watch the environment get worse, it will.
We can make a difference in our communities one city, then one state at a time.
We can improve our environment and make it a better place for future generations.
