Five Items To Avoid In The Home For Green Living

There are items in our everyday lives that can actually be making us sick.
Here is a quick list of things to avoid and suggestions for alternatives.
Household Chemicals.
So many cleaning, pest control and beauty products are chock full of dangerous chemicals yet easily available over the counter to invade our homes.
If these products have multi-syllable chemical names you cannot pronounce, chances are they should be avoided.
Instead, clean your home with lemon juice and vinegar; use natural, green products for pest control; and don't buy into the ridiculous hype of the billion dollar anti-aging industry.
Dryer Sheets.
These seemingly innocent items are chock full of every known carcinogen you can think of between the anti-static, anti-cling and crazy fragrance additives.
Not only do they release harmful chemicals into the air, but they cause a waxy build up inside the dryer that increases the risk of fires.
This is an excellent example of effective marketing because at some point, the public shifted to requiring a fragrance in their clothes.
Non-stick coating on pans.
These synthetic coatings infiltrate our food while cooking and then we eat that food.
If these ever get burned say a turn-on-the-stove-and-walk-out-to-get-the-phone type situation, the coating can burn off and emit insanely dangerous fumes.
There are incidences of people who did this and it killed their pet birds! Opt for ceramic coatings or just use a little more olive oil when you cook.
Candles and Air 'Fresheners'.
This gets back to the crazy need the public has for unnatural scents.
One almost comical example is the 'carpet treatments' of dust you put out before vacuuming.
Why would putting a chemical powder that can penetrate into the carpet be considered a good thing? Is it used to mask the musty smell of dirty carpet? The solution there is clean the carpet right in the first place! Then we have the products that you 'spray' on top of bedding, upholstery, etc.
to freshen things up.
Freshen, or poison? These fragrances are NOT natural but made up of synthetic chemicals with who knows what end result.
And plug in fresheners have caused fires.
Plastic for Food Storage.
This is the hardest one to avoid due to the convenience of plastic but one you really need to consider.
Plastic is absolutely unnatural.
It is a crazy, man-made product that does not decompose and actually emits something that mimics estrogen.
Whenever you start messing with hormones, everything gets messed up.
Why do you think we have such an increase in reproductive cancers? Many baby products are plastic and yet while Junior is munching away on a plastic toy or eating food stored in a plastic dish, his mind is in the most crucial developing stages which can be compromised by plastic.
Use old mayonnaise jars, baby food jars, etc.
whenever possible.
These are potentially harmful items within the home that you should avoid whenever possible.
Staying away from synthetic toxins will do wonders for our long term health.
