Sleep Apnea is a Very Serious Sleep Disorder

Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder.
This disorder is actually pauses in breathing while you are asleep.
Each pause is called an apnea.
These pauses are repeated throughout the night while you are asleep.
These pauses in breath last for over 10 seconds time.
Most people who suffer from sleep apnea are not even aware they suffer from it.
You are just not aware of having problems breathing when your are asleep.
What happens is you can sleep for as long as you can hold your breath and then your brain stem will wake you up for a breath of fresh air.
Symptoms can go on for years and you just become use to them as being a normal.
Symptoms can be daytime sleepiness, just like you have the feeling of always being ready to take a nap.
Fatigue becomes the norm, it seems like you just don't have the energy to do anything extra.
This sleep disordered breathing can have very serious health risk if left untreated.
Such as increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, even a stroke and all we are trying to do is get some rest.
If you suffer from this disorder, when you are asleep your body is not getting the proper amount of oxygen.
When your body realizes it is not getting the minimum levels of oxygen it needs, your heart will start pumping more blood to make up for the oxygen deficiency.
So, instead of getting the rest you need when asleep you just end up with an enlarged heart.
