How to Customize Formatting Options for Tracking Changes in Word 2007

    • 1). Open Microsoft Word 2007. Click the "Review" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Track Changes" button on the ribbon/toolbar below the tab.

    • 2). Click the "Change Tracking Options" line to open the "Track Changes Options" window.

    • 3). Pull down the "Color" menu on the "Insertions" line. Word comes with default colors for all of its track changes options, but they can be changed here. Select a new color, such as green, to signify anything an editor adds to a document, such as a word or punctuation.

    • 4). Repeat to designate the color for when editors delete and add comments.

    • 5). Pull down the menu for "Inserted cells" under "Table cell highlighting" and select a new color. Repeat for the "Merged cells," "Deleted cells" and "Split cells" menus. This is an ideal way to assign theme table colors to your business or branded colors.

    • 6). Leave the other options as their defaults and click the "OK" button. The changes remain in place until the next time they are adjusted.
