How to Do a Wire Transfer to Japan

    Western Union

    • 1). Go to a Western Union (or other international company) location and explain that you want to execute an international money transfer to Japan. You can provide cash or use credit or debit cards.

    • 2). Fill out the form that the Western Union employee gives you. You will need to specify how you want the money to be sent and which Western Union branch it is going to. Whoever is receiving the money will need to pick it up at a Western Union location. Be sure you are clear on the cost of the transaction.

    • 3). Give the employee your funds and get a transaction number.

    Bank to Bank Transfer

    • 1). Go into your local bank and arrange to do a one-time international money transfer.

    • 2). Fill out the necessary forms and verify the costs. You will need to know the correct name of the person receiving the funds, the name and address of his bank and his account number. It will help to know the international bank code for the receiver's bank, although the banker should be able to look it up.

    • 3). Verify that the funds have been received by using the transaction number from your bank.
