Management Coaching

The Encyclopedic genius Wikipedia, defines Coaching as "the activity of a coach in developing the abilities of a coachee. Coaching tends to focus on an existing issue (from which to move away) or a specific outcome that the individual wishes to achieve (move towards)."

This comes close to the behavior a sports coach exhibits. Though the concept of a management coaching originates from sports, this definition is not exactly true in the business scenario.

Very often the business coach has never worked in the same field as the coachee, while in sports it is unheard of a football player coaching abaseball team. Unlike the sports coach, a business coach does not derive and impart advice based on his/her experience. On the contrary, s/he helps the coahee to question the basic assumptions and discover solutions to the problems.

In fact, this is the trait which distinguishes Management Coaching from Mentoring, Consulting, and Training etc. All these professionals are subject matter experts who can device solutions for the problems faced by their clients.

A job of a coach depends on how well and how many open questions s/he can ask in order to help the client open up to new possibilities. The coach seldom knows the perfect solution; hence coaching is a learning experience for both the coach and the coachee.

There are numerous possibilities in the field of Coaching with superb trainings available. Although you will find practitioners, who get work based on their experience. Nevertheless, it is still in its nascent stage and there is still a lot to explore about Management Coaching.
