What Is Homeopathy? Its Details

Homeopathy was conceived by of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the year 1975 to 1843. He was a German physician who developed this gentle system of medicine after witnessing then prevalent brutal system of curing a patient with help of bloodletting, chaining mentally stressed patient, and putting salt on wounds. He found a system of medicine based on the principle of "similia similibus curanter "which means "like cures like" and named it Homeopathy. In other words any substance which creates certain symptoms in healthy person is capable of curing it in sickness, for example Poison ivy causes redness, itching, burning, blistering and muscle stiffness in a person. The medicine made from this plant can cure diseases having such symptoms like in herpes, eczema, burns to arthritis.

It is believed that till date almost 3000 substance have been used in making all these medicines that make cure all sorts of diseases that modern medical science usually consider incurable. This medicine has wide range of action in curing the disease and treat patients suffering from harmless cold to life threatening cancer.

You may be getting puzzled about what is homeopathy and its nature. It has another salient feature which separates it from other system of medicine that this system believes in theory of "minimum dose". Hahnemann saw that large doses used in other system of medicine increased the toxicity in patient's body causing side effects. To prevent the harmful effects, he began "successive dilution "with agitation of the medicine till the time it became incapable of producing any side effects and only curative action remained.

It also has proven records of preventing diseases. During polio epidemic in 1957 in Buenos Aries a homeopathic drug Lathyrus was given as preventive measure to hundreds of people. It was recorded that no one contacted that disease. Similarly in 1974 in a meningococcal meningitis epidemic in Brazil approximately 18,640 children were given homeopathic medicine. Only 4 cases of meningitis were recorded amongst those children. Like this there are many evidences.

Presently, homeopathy is practiced worldwide and according to world health organization, it is being used by 500 million people all over the world, arise in people's mind on quite a number of occasions, making it the second most used medicine in the globe. In England, Netherland, France, Germany it is included in national services. In all over India there are many teaching institutions and hospitals and health ministry recognizes it under alternative system of medicine.
