Having Reservations About Lasik Surgery

I have recently taken an interest in having laser surgery done on my eyes because, seven years ago the quality of my eyesight began to change.
The latest and greatest procedure that eye surgery centers are using these days is called Lasik.
To be honest with you, the more I check into this procedure, I am having reservations about this eye surgery.
Although there are many wonderful testimonials to be found on the Internet there are also many who are warning us about the possibilities of complications.
In trying to understand why I am cautious about proceeding forward, I have come up with some interesting perceptions about myself that make sense.
Understanding Why I Have Uncertainties About Laser Surgery I believe that there are many reasons why I have uncertainties about laser surgery.
From the time I was a little boy, I have been taught to protect my eyesight.
Remembering back about forty two years ago when, I was given my first BB gun.
It came with strict instructions from my brother.
I was taught that it would cause blindness if someone were to get shot in the eye with it.
There was also a time when I was warned by my parents about the dangers of fireworks and how if they were not handled correctly an accident could cause serious damage.
In my early teens, I actually met a man who had become blind due to an accident that was related to a fire cracker.
One of my first jobs, at age seventeen, was in a cabinet shop.
This is where I was taught to protect my eyesight by wearing goggles.
There are many other illustrations that I could share about various times throughout my life that I have been informed about the dangers of something related to my eyesight.
At age forty seven, I have managed to preserve having acceptable vision in both of my eyes.
So I have to ask myself, "why would you risk having an eye surgery procedure, like Lasik, that could further complicate your existing vision problems?" Why I Have Decided To Not Have The Lasik Operation Although there are many testimonies about how wonderful this eye surgery is and even great people like Tiger Woods have taken the risk, I have decided to not have the Lasik operation at this time.
A wise man once told me that I should take care of my teeth because, I only get one set.
The same wisdom should be applied to caring for my eyes.
Even our creator has tried to show us that these organs have great value by equipping us with eyelids.
I believe that we will eventually see the risks of having laser surgery decrease to the point of almost perfection.
Nothing will ever have a 100% guarantee but, the medical field is advancing with such great speed it's guaranteed that the risks will be lessened.
I am choosing to wear glasses for now and endure the inconvenience of having poor vision until the procedure becomes even more safe than it already is.
Because of my reservations about Lasik, I have decided to wait at least another five years before considering it again.
Time is moving so quickly that with just a blink of an eye five years will have passed.
With confidence, I can honestly say that my uncertainties about having eye surgery will be fewer due to the improvements that we will see over the next five years.
Although I have decided to not have the surgery done at this time, I really feel there is coming a day when I personally will feel that the time is right and the risks are almost obsolete.
