How to Get Rid of Diesel Fuel Odor

    Removing Diesel Fuel Odor from Hands

    • 1). Wash your hands thoroughly with a degreasing dish soap. Run your hands under warm water as you rub them together, forming lather with the dish soap. Use a rag to further scrub your hands while still running them under the water with the dish soap. Scrub your nails with a nail brush.

    • 2). Slice a lemon in half if the odor persists. Scrub the cut side of the lemon all over your hands. Work the juice of the lemon into your skin and under your fingernails. Wash your hands with soap and water.

    • 3). Create a paste of baking soda and vinegar for an alternative method for removing diesel fuel odor from your hands. Combine 3 parts baking soda to 1 part white vinegar into a bowl. Rub the mixture all over your hands, scrubbing briskly to work it into the skin. Scrub the mixture under your fingernails with a nail brush. Wash your hands with soap and water.

    Removing Diesel Fuel Odor from Clothing

    • 1). Fill a large bucket with equal parts vinegar and cool water. Add 1 cup of baking soda to the mixture.

    • 2). Place the clothing into the bucket. Allow the clothing to soak in the solution overnight.

    • 3). Launder the clothing as usual. Add 1 cup of vinegar to the washer along with your regular laundry detergent.

    • 4). Soak the clothing in a cola mixture for an alternative method for removing diesel fuel odor. Fill a bucket with 2 gallons of cold water. Add 24 oz. of cola and 1 box of baking soda to the water. Let the clothing soak for 24 hours. Remove the clothing and hang outside to dry. Launder the clothing as usual.

    Removing Diesel Fuel Odor from Car

    • 1). Let the car air out. Roll down the windows and leave car doors open for several hours to eliminate as much of the smell as possible.

    • 2). Sprinkle the affected areas of the car with baking soda. Allow it to set on the spot overnight.

    • 3). Brush the baking soda off the next day using a hand-held broom and dust pan. Remove the remaining baking soda with a vacuum cleaner, if necessary.

    • 4). Fill an empty spray bottle with apple cider vinegar if the smell persists. Spray the affected areas of the car with the vinegar. If possible, leave the windows down overnight to allow the car to air out.
