Earth Day
Earth Day was started back in 1970 as a means of drawing attention to our planet and protecting our environment.
It is a challenge for the environmental community.
Be a part of cleaning up our environment for generations to come.
This environmental day is celebrated on April 22.
Senator Gaylord Nelson was an Earth Day activist.
He was tired of the governments' lack of response and decided to do something about it.
"Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, city slickers and farmers, tycoons and labor leaders.
The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.
"It was a gamble," Gaylord recalled, "but it worked.
" What will you be doing to promote this special environmental day this year? There are many ideas available to all, adults and kids, to celebrate our environment.
The basic idea is to just get involved and do something.
Here are just a few:
It is important to remember about our environment where we all live.
We as citizens need to join in to do our part.
Don't trash our environment.
Remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Earth Day is not the solution but it is a start.
It makes more people aware of our environment and what they can do to improve it.
Look up and Google it on your computer and see what events are taking place in your area.
Participate in improving our environment and educating our children.
Our climate is changing.
You want the environment to be clean for your children and for generations to come.
Climate change is becoming more obvious every day.
Do you have clean water? Most cities add chemicals to water to clean it.
But then you drink those chemicals in that water.
Do you have clean air to breathe? More people these days have allergies to our environment.
Focus on global warming and clean energy.
Your children's lives may depend upon it.
