Bacterial vaginosis is an infection of the vagina of women, aged between 15 years to 44 years, caused by abnormal percentage of bacteria present in the vaginal discharge of the women. A normal and healthy woman's vaginal discharge contain numerous microorganisms.

Bacterial vaginosis, not labeled as a sexually transmitted disease, is the precise condition where this normal ratio of microorganisms is overthrown by increased bacterial count, causing unpleasant odour of vaginal discharge. Other bacterial vaginosis over the counter medications include various powders, capsules, gels and creams that differ from country to country.

Several home remedy are also available for bacterial vaginosis. These treatments not only sometime prove to be effective but also they can save the patient a lot of trouble associated with allopath. A boric acid douche is also an ideal alternative to produce this kinds of diseases.

Sometimes alternative treatments to bacterial vaginosis may also be homeopathy, oxygen healing therapies, nutritional supplements, dietary restrictions, warm bath and cold compresses.
