Debt Trap can ruin your marital bond

Couples caught in a "debt trap" may find a lot many difficulties even in their personal lives. It would not be an exaggeration to put forward that money is one of the core factors of a relationship's happiness, if it is not the only factor. The importance of money for a smooth relationship cannot be denied in the present scenario.

The impact of debt on marital bond:

Debt may not throw a direct impact on personal relations, but, this is true that it has many large impacts on our lives.
  • Dissatisfaction

A person in debtmight not be able to meet the basic requirements of life. It could be so that he keeps on deferring some of the important things and it could get intolerablefrom the partner or the family members over the period of time. In the process, dissatisfaction sets in amongst the relationship and hence starting to ruin the same.
  • Distrust

Unfortunately, when one continues with a debt trap for quite a long time, the spouse may not be able to trust him in the time of emergencies or needs because there is always a hitch about availability of fund.
  • Kills the basic happiness

When one knows that the partner is struggling to clear a debt, then it refrains the other partner from expressing the basic needs and hence the basic happiness in life gets compromised.
  • Dominates the privacy

A person in debt is always occupied with the thought and fear of clearing the debt, in the process, even when the couples intend to spend time together; there is always a thin layer of worry and fear between them. Even if the couple seem to be spending private time, one of them is surrounded with a "fear" which dominates the mood.
  • Stress predominates

The relationship is predominated by stress more than anything else on this earth. One who is primarily responsible for clearing the debt is stressed to meet all ends, and the other one is stressed out of the pain and fear of the partner.
  • Future is at stake

A debt not only affects the present but also the future, as in the process to meet the debt, people forget to plan and prepare for the future.
  • Temporal and Spiritual Downfall

When people in crisis for a prolonged period, there is grossly a downfall observed temporally and spiritually amongst people. There is always a change in the personality which restricts people from behaving normally and hence adversely affecting the relationship.

There are many factors which ensure that a marital bond keeps going smoothly, though the monetary status is quite an important factor. A spouse finds it difficult to rely upon the partner who is in debt and even the basic feelings as well as needs find a restriction in getting a scope of expression. Overall, the relationship gets stressed and limited in many ways. It could always not be only due to monetary problems but mainly due to personality issues which deprive the marital relationship from functioning normally.
