FITNESS DAVE
It's time to face up to the facts... not only are there parts of my body heading south, but the rest of me seems to be heading east and west too! I can no longer use the excuse and wail "but I've just had a baby", because my little boy Charlie is now approaching his first birthday. Yes, it is indeed time to face up to the facts and get some help with getting in shape again.
Call in "Fitness Dave", as he's affectionately known amongst his customers, professionally, he's Dave Green, a personal fitness instructor based in Brancaster Staithe.
Now don't be put off by the phrase "Personal Fitness Instructor". Ignore all the hype and famous faces that don our glossy magazines running around Hyde Park looking svelte, no sweat and paying large amounts of money for some bulk of a person, shouting instructions and looking stern. This is not real life!
What is real life is Dave Green's genuine concern for our well-being, looking after ourselves, (inside and out), getting outside in the fresh air and most of all enjoying life. After my free consultation and first workout, I can honestly say, I've never met someone who exudes so much positive energy, it would be hard not to feel motivated with my "get fit, weight-loss" mission.
The consultation is thorough, far more thorough than a chain of gyms, which in my opinion are only after your money. Aside from checking your height, weight and blood pressure, your body fat is checked, flexibility, lung capacity. All of this could sound daunting and obtrusive, but it's not. It's crucial information Dave needs in order to help you reach your desired goals.
I then had to complete my personal details, confirming if I had any medical history which may cause concern, family medical history, lifestyle history... phew, I was worn out. But isn't it reassuring to know that someone is genuinely clued up and isn't prepared to take shortcuts or risks?
If you're ex-army, I suppose you wouldn't take shortcuts, and if you once were a VIP close protection officer you're going to be genuinely clued up and Dave was once both of these. After 12 years in the Army he retrained in fitness and massage and halfway through the course was employed as a careers adviser. Then he decided to become freelance, becoming a personal fitness instructor in London. He's trained some famous faces apparently, but he wouldn't divulge who - boo!
In July 2006, Dave and his wife Jo, decided to move to Norfolk as he had visited the area for ten years and thought it would be a good place to continue his personal fitness business. It didn't take long for the word to be passed round that this guy from London was working his magic on various locals, from losing weight, some even wanted to gain weight, getting fit, helping with rehabilitation after illness or injury, his reputation spread quicker than I can put butter on my toast! Oh yeah, butter, I've got to cut that out apparently. Anyway, I'm digressing.
Dave has an array of equipment which he can bring to you, you don't need a huge lounge for him to train you in, he's also very keen to get you outside, I've often seen him training customers on Brancaster Staithe common. He keeps in touch during sessions to keep an eye on you, or should I say, to encourage you, either by text or email, so you remain motivated and focussed. How many gyms do that? None.
He doesn't charge Hollywood prices, but prices do vary depending on the number of sessions you book.
After my first workout, I literally skipped to the car rather than limp and I woke up the next morning feeling energised and that's because I worked my body properly and sensibly with proper guidance and support (I'm not talking bra's).
I'm booked in for a few sessions, this is not just a one-off, this is a true interest in getting fit, maybe in six months time I can give you an update and hopefully say "Like my new body? It's all down to Fitness Dave".
