Tummy Tuck - What Are the Benefits of Abdominoplasty?

The traditional abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as the tummy tuck, involves slenderizing the saggy and protruding abdomen area.
Many people suffer, not only from a problem stomach area, but in the hip and flank area, affectionately referred to as "love handles".
The extended tummy tuck can alleviate both issues at the same time.
During a regular tummy tuck procedure, plastic surgeons remove excess skin and fat in the area between the belly button and the pubic bone.
The area known as the inner girdle, which consists of muscles and connective tissue of fascia, are tightened up, as well, in order to hold the internal organs firmly in place.
During an extended tummy tuck, the hip and flank region are addressed with incisions running the entire length of the abdominal area, allowing the surgeon to removed extra fatty bulges and sags in that area.
A new belly button or navel is created in the proper central location of the newly sculpted midsection.
Liposuction, which is the removal of excessive adipose tissue through a suctioning device called a cannula, may be performed in conjunction with either of these surgeries.
Both the regular and extended abdominoplasty are performed under general anesthesia at a surgical center or hospital.
Because the extended version addresses a larger portion of the body, an overnight stay is often required.
Drains will be placed to remove blood and fluids that accumulate during healing.
A compression garment, also called an abdominal binder, will need to be worn for at least one month in order to support the healing process.
The more extensive procedure is often chosen by patients who have experienced a massive weight loss and have more areas to tighten up and sculpt into proportion.
The ideal candidate should be at or near their ideal weight.
They should be in good health, physically and psychologically.
If they are a cigarette smoker, they should give it up in advance of the surgery because it is proven that nicotine slows down the healing process.
Second hand smoke should be avoided, as well.
Taking aspirin or products that contain it should be eliminated in the weeks prior to and after the surgery.
Swelling and bruising should resolve itself within the first six to eight weeks and the final result should be viewable after three months.
The slender look will be permanent as long as the patient continues to incorporate a healthy diet and exercise regime into their lifestyle.
